Uist News, Monday 3rd November A dreich start to the day here on Uist today. It is forecast to remain the same for the rest of the day with south-westerly gusts of up to 47 mph expected later. Several curlew were spotted on the croft at the weekend. Easily identified with their mottled brown and grey plumage, they spent most of the day walking around together looking for worms. A juvenile female Bufflehead was also spotted on Barra at the weekend. These colourful ducks spend their winters bobbing in lochs and bays, abruptly vanishing and resurfacing while they feed. If you get a closer look at the male's head, you will see the glossy green and purple setting off its striking black and white body.
