Uist News, Tuesday 16th September. A beautiful start to the day here on North Uist today. It is forecast to remain the same for the rest of the day with temperatures of up to 13 degrees. Wildlife spotted on the MOD Range Hebrides on South Uist yesterday were adult American Golden Plovers, Curlew Sandpipers and Ruff. The elegant Hoopoe was also seen. The most notable feature of this elegant bird is a large, pinkish-brown crest that they raise and lower, making them look like they are wearing a crown. Crofters also like having them around as they particularly enjoy dung heaps and consume unwanted agricultural pests.
Miniature narcissus is just another name for a dwarf daffodil variety. Like regular-sized daffodils, they grow from fall planted bulbs and bloom in spring. The size of a dwarf daffodil depends on the variety, but generally they grow 4 to 6 inches (10-15 cm.) tall with flowers that are just one and a half inches (4 cm.).
