Uist News, Thursday 1st May Another cloudy start to the day here on North Uist today. It is forecast to remain the same for most of the day, but there may be some sunshine later. We heard the cuckoo for the first time last night on the croft. The male cuckoo's "cu-koo" call is well known and nice to hear in the evening, but can be very annoying early in the morning! These sneaky birds are infamous for laying their eggs in the nests of other birds, tricking them into thinking the cuckoo chick is their own.
Miniature narcissus is just another name for a dwarf daffodil variety. Like regular-sized daffodils, they grow from fall planted bulbs and bloom in spring. The size of a dwarf daffodil depends on the variety, but generally they grow 4 to 6 inches (10-15 cm.) tall with flowers that are just one and a half inches (4 cm.).
