Uist News, Friday 14th March A beautiful start to the day here on Uist this morning. It is forecast to remain the same for the rest of the day but remain a little chilly with the north-easterly breeze. Whooper Swans and Common Scoters were spotted on Berneray yesterday. The common scoter is a dark-coloured seaduck, the male is totally black and the female lighter, with a pale face. They are often seen as long straggling lines flying along the coast or as large bobbing rafts near the shore.
Miniature narcissus is just another name for a dwarf daffodil variety. Like regular-sized daffodils, they grow from fall planted bulbs and bloom in spring. The size of a dwarf daffodil depends on the variety, but generally they grow 4 to 6 inches (10-15 cm.) tall with flowers that are just one and a half inches (4 cm.).
