Uist News, Thursday 10th September A wet and windy start to the day here on Uist today. The south-westerly wind is forecast to ease later though and it should be brighter. The swallows are still in and out of the shed behind the smokehouse looking after their chicks. These cute little birds prefer to nest in sheltered sheds like ours that are warm and cosy. If you pop your head in the door they make an awful fuss until you leave. We hear their twittering, trilling calls throughout the day and we often like to watch their acrobatics as they fly in to feed the chicks.
Miniature narcissus is just another name for a dwarf daffodil variety. Like regular-sized daffodils, they grow from fall planted bulbs and bloom in spring. The size of a dwarf daffodil depends on the variety, but generally they grow 4 to 6 inches (10-15 cm.) tall with flowers that are just one and a half inches (4 cm.).
