Uist News, Friday 2nd May Another cloudy start to the day here on North Uist today. It is forecast to remain the same for the rest of the day with temperatures of up to 10 degrees. The weekend is looking much brighter though, but it may be a bit cooler due to the north wind. House Martins were spotted yesterday at Loch na Reivil. This loch is in Hougharry (Gaelic name -Hogha Gearraidh) which is near the RSPB in Balranald and Balranald Hebridean Holidays. These beautiful blue birds are known for their mud nests, often built under the eaves of houses. They often reuse old nests, which can save them considerable time and effort in collecting mud.
Miniature narcissus is just another name for a dwarf daffodil variety. Like regular-sized daffodils, they grow from fall planted bulbs and bloom in spring. The size of a dwarf daffodil depends on the variety, but generally they grow 4 to 6 inches (10-15 cm.) tall with flowers that are just one and a half inches (4 cm.).
